Student Application Process

Who is eligible to apply?

As investment in learnerships is essential for achieving top B-BBEE ratings, The Skills Development Corporation aims to provide a platform for businesses to fund B-BBEE-certified learnerships and skills programs for their current workforce or the unemployed youth.

As we identify the gap in each of our client’s B-BBEE Skills Development portfolios, we are able to identify and source learners for learnerships.

The criteria to become a learner at SDC are as follows, and learners must comply with all to be eligible:

*According to the Employment Equity Act 55 of 1998, people are considered persons with disabilities when they have a physical or mental impairment that is long-term or recurring, which limits their prospects of entry into or advancement in employment. An impairment may be physical or mental, or a combination of both. Physical refers to a partial or total loss of bodily function and includes sensory impairments. Mental impairment refers to a clinically recognized condition or illness affecting the person’s thought processes, judgment, or emotions.

Unlock your potential with our streamlined learner application process! From enrolment to embarking on your educational journey, we’re here to guide you every step of the way.

Eligible learners may submit their details online to join the pool of learners we actively source from for learnerships (subject to our validation process). If you are living with a disability, a valid medical certificate confirming your disability is required. Should you fit our learner sourcing criteria, you will be contacted.

To start the application process, all applicants must submit the original documents listed below to the SDC Campus in either Johannesburg or Cape Town (Mondays, 8 am – 12 pm for abled learners & Mon – Fri, 8 am -12 pm for disabled learners). This is required even if you have submitted your details online to join our learner sourcing pool. Please note that all documentation is subject to validation for all learners.

The following original documentation must be submitted:

  • Proof of disability (in accordance with the Employment Equity Act)
  • Updated CV (including tertiary qualifications and/or work experience)
  • Proof of residence
  • 2 x Certified copies of the highest school qualification
  • 2 x Certified copies of ID
  • 3-Month bank statement (not older than 3 months)
  • SARS Tax number (Notice of Registration)

JOHANNESBURG: 24 Achter Road, Paulshof, Sandton, 2191
CAPE TOWN: Fourth Floor, Bloemhof Building, 112 Edward Street, Bellville, 7530

All documents will be thoroughly reviewed to guarantee their validity. SDC adheres to ethical and legal standards at all times. Upon successful review, you will be contacted for an interview.

As part of our pre-screening, we conduct a brief interview with all prospective learners to gather information about your background, abilities, and communication skills.

All applicants will write an assessment test and must pass with 80%.

Once steps 1-4 have been completed, the SDC team will begin validating all documentation, including interview notes and the assessment test. If the validation process is successful and the applicant meets all the requirements, they will be added to our validated applicant database. Note that a waiting period is subject to all learners from this point, as successful applicants can only be enrolled for learnerships per our client’s B-BBEE Skills Development needs.

Once the SDC team successfully allocates an applicant to a learnership, the applicant will be invited to our campus to begin their learnership and sign their contract.
