Application for SETA Grants

Application for SETA Grants

Mandatory and Discretionary Grants encourage businesses to plan and implement employee training and create job opportunities for unemployed people.

Employers who (1.) pay their 1% Skills Development Levies to their relevant SETA, and (2.) submit their Workplace Skills Plan (WSP) and Annual Training Report (ATR) on time will be eligible to claim grants from their respective SETAs.

Who must pay

skills levies?

Every employer registered with SARS for PAYE and with an annual payroll (total salaries and wages including bonuses, commission, etc.) of more than R500 000, or 50 plus staff members, is required to pay skill levies. The employer’s contribution is calculated as 1% of the leviable amount, which is equivalent to the employee’s remuneration for PAYE purposes – in other words, the employee’s remuneration less any taxable income deductions.

WSP/ATR Plans

Let us help you

A Workplace Skills Plan (WSP) is a prerequisite should your business intend to maintain an exemplary B-BBEE scorecard and apply for a Mandatory or Discretionary grant. Mandatory Grant applications must be submitted annually by June 30th. A Mandatory Grant equals 20% of your 1% Skills Development Levy is paid directly to your business. Additional submission periods open for Discretionary Grants by the SETA. Companies may use the funds to reinvest in skills development by funding skills development institutions or paying stipends to learners.

SDC Consult

While organizations can choose to manage this process internally, a WSP is typically compiled by a registered Skills Development Facilitator (SDF) or another qualified individual and submitted to the SETA. The Skills Development Corporation has a solid track record in this area.

We facilitate this service through a division of the SDC Group called SDC Consult, a registered SDF that administrates all WSP and ATR submissions for our clients. SDC Consult is a consulting firm specialising in legal business compliance, specialised training courses (non-B-BBEE-accredited), skills training, labour law, COIDA, POPIA, and UIF services.
