Joseph Mahlangu
Joseph has obtained a learnership qualification in Short-Term Insurance at SDC. As part of his learnership, he was placed at SDC Wealth Management (an entity of SDC Group) for his practical work-integrated learning component. Joseph’s time with SDC has been fruitful, and he has gained valuable experience in the wealth management industry and has been exposed to new business skills such as analyzing client needs, assisting with quotes, completing disclosure documentation, and claim handling.
The skills and knowledge acquired during the learnership provided him with improved communication skills and have enabled him to work well with co-workers, the management, and clients. He obtained certificates for Good Attendance and Top Sales Performer. He has since graduated and been absorbed by the SDC Wealth Management Cape Town branch as an Administrator.
Thato Chisane
Thato was referred to SDC by an employee and subsequently enrolled with an RE5 qualification. The learnership opportunity equipped Thato with essential financial industry knowledge, and she can now use financial software to manage client details. She has developed new skills, such as excellent communication and computer skills. Her SDC mentor and facilitator have supported her immensely, which has been paramount to her success.
Thato continues to assist the SDC recruitment team in inspiring young people by telling her testimony, speaking in front of different crowds, facing her fear of public speaking, and breaking the stigma that young people living with disabilities have barriers.
Khotso Khati
Khotso describes his experience at SDC as simply amazing and highlights how SDC has been helpful and very understanding throughout his journey to obtaining a qualification. “The smiles are amazing every day, and you feel welcomed when you are around the office.”
His most memorable moment with SDC was getting around the practical workplace component of his learnership. He believes the workplace journey he was offered has motivated him and given him a purpose. He gained experience working in sales, life insurance, and claims and now understands the short-term insurance industry and can continue to grow within the industry.
Lerato Masibi
Lerato’s experience with SDC has been encouraging. It has developed her not only as a student but also motivated her to become a staff member as an intern at SDC.
Throughout her learnership and practical work-integrated learning, Lerato has experienced friendly and supportive interaction among her classmates and facilitator. This has taught her valuable skills and contributed to her professionalism. She is grateful for the soft skills she obtained before being appointed as an intern at SDC, as she was groomed and developed mentally and physically to handle the work environment at its best.
